Effects of Dental Sedation

Oral Sedation

The effects of oral sedation can range from minimal to moderate, depending on the dosage of the pill you’ll take before your dental operation. Typically, you'll be given a small tablet to you if you undergo a less invasive dental treatment such as dental fillings. You'll become groggy and occasionally fall asleep during the procedure when you’re under this level of sedation.

Inhaled Sedation

Breathing in nitrous oxide will help you relax before and during your operation. Depending on your dental procedure, your dentist will control the amount of sedation you’ll receive. During this state, you’ll either be awake and mildly responsive or lightly sleeping with little recollection of what happened during the procedure.

IV Sedation

With IV sedation, you’ll receive the sedative through your veins which works instantly compared to the other types of sedation. This type of sedative is often used in invasive dental procedures such as getting dental implants, wisdom tooth removal, and multiple tooth extractions. During your sedation, you’ll be primarily asleep and unresponsive; however, the level of sedation can be adjusted by your dentists depending on your situation.
